The Uganda Christian University (UCU) Director of University ICT Services, Rebecca Kangabe, while addressing a delegation of Uganda and Belgium Red Cross Society, urged for the adoption and promotion of blended learning noting its flexibility, versatility especially in today’s digitalized society. This was during the launch of Uganda Red Cross’ First Aid Blended Learning tool (FABL) tool at Serena Hotel, Kampala.

Rebecca noted that blended learning is the way to go for all institutions that wish to advance and stay relevant in an increasingly digitalized economy. “Blended learning is both practical and impactful,” she said, commending Red Cross Society on rolling out such a useful innovation and setting a bold goal of “training every Ugandan to become a first aid responder…” Red Cross’ FABL combines online learning with practical in-person sessions, making it easier, faster, and more flexible for individuals across Uganda to gain essential First Aid skills.

Drawing from the UCU experience, Rebecca highlighted UCU’s successful and progressive journey in offering blended learning through innovative, accessible, and adaptable technologies, which have not only enhanced university operations, the overall education experience, but also given UCU an edge over many private and public institutions in the region.

She urged participants at the launch to utilize the “live-saving initiative” and pledged support by promoting it and equipping UCU staff and students to enrol for the online first-aid training modules.

Rebecca was accompanied by two students from the UCU School of Law (Kampala Campus) and a student representative from the UCU School of Medicine Red Cross Club.

The event was graced by Uganda’s Minister of State for Gender, Labour and Social Development, Hon. Esther Davinia Anyakun.
