In 2024, the Uganda Christian University ICT Services (UIS) department led a transformative Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to Mukono High School, reaffirming its commitment to community uplift, digital inclusion, and educational empowerment. The outreach combined strategic infrastructure upgrades, mentorship, and institutional collaboration leaving a lasting impact on students, staff, and the broader community.
1. Career Guidance & Mentorship
The CSR event opened with an inspiring Career Guidance Session, spearheaded by The UIS Director Rebecca Kangabe. Her keynote address ignited curiosity and ambition among students, as she shared her personal journey in ICT leadership and emphasized the importance of resilience, continuous learning, and ethical innovation.
The outreach session covered career pathways in ICT, cybersecurity, and digital entrepreneurship, highlighting the role of technology in shaping Uganda’s future. Students also learned about opportunities at Uganda Christian University, including scholarships and academic programs.
An interactive Q &A session allowed students to engage deeply with UIS staff, asking about university life, career choices, and the future of technology. The discussions built confidence and clarity among the learners inspiring to join STEM fields.
As one team member reflected after a student asked how to become a cybersecurity expert: “That moment reminded us why outreach matters—not just to inform, but to inspire.”
2. Website Development for Mukono High School
To elevate the school’s digital presence, UIS designed and launched a modern, secure, and user-friendly website.
The platform now serves as a central hub for communication, visibility, and engagement. “This website isn’t just a tool it’s a gateway. It connects Mukono High to the world and gives students a digital identity they can be proud of.”
3. Computer Lab Upgrade
Recognizing the importance of digital literacy, UIS conducted a hands-on upgrade of the school’s computer lab. Technicians replaced RAM chips in multiple machines, significantly boosting performance and usability.
4. Formation of Mukono High School ICT Club: Cultivating Future Tech Leaders
We also supported the establishment of the Mukono High School ICT Club—a strategic initiative to promote sustained student engagement, peer learning, and leadership development in the digital space. The launch began with the election of club leaders, giving learners practical experience in organizational leadership.
