University ICT Services Launched CSR Program

In 2023, the Directorate of ICT Services proudly announced the official launch of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program, under the theme “Inspire, Innovate, Connect.” The program was designed to strengthen community engagement by giving back and supporting initiatives that make a lasting impact.

The inaugural activity was held at Home of Hope in Jinja, a non-governmental organisation founded by Edith to provide physical care and compassion for children in Uganda living with multiple disabilities. Many of the children cared for at Home of Hope had been abandoned or neglected, and the organisation offered them a safe and loving place to call home.

At that time, Home of Hope supported over 100 children, helping them overcome daily challenges caused by disabilities and enabling them to develop physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially so they could lead more fulfilling lives. Beyond caring for the children, the organisation reached out to the wider community by educating parents of children with disabilities on proper care, providing medication, conducting home visits, and carrying out outreach programmes. Its mission focused on reducing child abandonment, ensuring access to basic needs, promoting social inclusion, and raising community awareness to foster love and acceptance of children with disabilities.

During the visit, the University ICT Services team donated food items and spent the day engaging in various activities. The team toured the facility, shared meals, and joyfully interacted with the children through feeding, playing, and listening to their stories. The day was crowned with vibrant entertainment from the children, whose songs and performances deeply touched the visitors.

The launch of the CSR Program not only marked a new chapter for the Directorate but also demonstrated its commitment to social responsibility and community impact. By partnering with organisations like Home of Hope, ICT Services created meaningful connections and inspired a culture of compassion, innovation, and service beyond the university walls.

As Nelson Mandela once said, “There can be no greater gift than that of giving one’s time and energy to help others without expecting anything in return.”
